Frequently Asked Questions

How can you help me?

My goal is to help you enjoy more success in your professional and personal life. We work together to support, challenge, and guide you toward a life you really want to live.

What’s the difference between coaching and psychotherapy?

Coaching tends to be action oriented and emphasizes strengths rather than deficits and the present rather than the past. Deciding which service you want depends on your needs and goals. I do only coaching if you live outside Washington State.

Can I use health insurance?

Because coaching does not involve a medical diagnosis, it is not covered by medical insurance. In addition, most health insurance companies require disclosure of confidential information, so I don’t recommend you use it even if you have it. View my fee schedule.

What kinds of help do you offer?

  • Identifying what’s most important to live the life you really want.
  • Setting goals and action plans to enhance a sense of mastery.
  • Creating structure and accountability so you maintain momentum.
  • Dealing with blockages and obstacles so they won’t derail your success.

Most services are provided one-on-one in private, in-person consultations. Telephone consultations are also available. In addition to personal consulting, subject-specific group sessions are available. New 'virtual' groups are forming now. Send me an email of a group you might be interested in joining, e.g., solo practitioners, spouses of lawyers, lawyers in transition, etc.

My firm could really use help with some problem individuals. Do you do that?

Yes. I work with firms to analyze root causes, develop change strategies, and implement long-term solutions for issues such as

  • Problem Partners causing low morale or the loss of valued staff;
  • Hiring, promotion, and layoffs;
  • Succession planning.

I’m not a lawyer. Can you work with me anyway?

Yes. I am experienced helping bright, competent people get to the heart of what they really want. My specialty is the legal field, and I work with other professionals as well.

My work occurs in the public eye, and I’m concerned about confidentiality.

You need a professional who understands how vital it is to protect your privacy. You want an experienced person you can trust and a private place to talk about your life and dreams. I’ve designed my office location and procedures for maximum privacy, and we can work by phone or at other locations if you prefer.

Where is your office? How can I contact you?

My office is located in the classic Smith Tower in Pioneer Square, downtown Seattle. Sweeping views of the Olympic Mountains, Elliott Bay, and the city are the backdrop for our work together. The address is 506 Second Avenue, Suite 1015, Seattle, Washington, 98104. My telephone number is (206) 217-5438. Leave a voice message if I’m unable to take your call or email me.
